Like other works in Grocott's series of incomplete sentences, I Can't Talk Now goes nowhere and confesses everything. The clumsy intimacy expressed in this text-based work is set up to tease the spectator, hopefully enticing the viewer to direct their own story around a familiar script. As overheard phrases these edited soundbites frame our experience of language and suggest that it is anything but clear and precise. In their presentation, the wall works demands a physical intimacy that rewards the curious participant through the disclosure of a well-worn thought.
