During a long night of insomnia, a cook reflects about who he is. A stream of consciousness, the internal ramblings of a frustrated cook, unfolds as the viewer wanders through this CD-ROM interactive. Different qualities of the cook evolve as layers of his personality are revealed. He continuously hears voices from his past as he tries hard to remember events. The phantoms of his reveries are silhouettes and sound loops that repeat, continuing to appear and haunt the cook throughout the interactive. The computer in essence becomes the cook's brain. The viewer hears a series of monologues as the cook's insomnia feeds his own anxieties. The Good Cook project is based in part on a series of conversations Buckley recorded in the kitchen of a restaurant between a cook and his assistant. Other sources include childhood stories, snatches of songs and fictional material.
