Melbourne International Biennial Collaborating Country Projects: Italian Pavilion.
Incorporating an off-site project at Platform 2, Shop 10, Campbell Arcade, Flinders St Station.
Curated by Jen Budney & Roberto Pinto as part of the first Melbourne International Biennial, CCP presents Stranger Knocking, a contemporary look at eight artists at the forefront of Italian photographic and video practice. These artists have all identifed themselves at some point as Stranieri (foreigners) in Italy, at home, or in front of certain people or images. They consider this estrangement a driving force... the anonymity of the street providing them a sense of both urban abstraction and immediacy. Don't miss Alessandra Spranzi's frozen, burning interiors, Gabriele Di Matteo's mass-mediated iconography and Bert Theis' video scenarios of domesticity.
