line, by Australian net artist Melinda Rackham, is about being online - who we are and how we communicate as our daily working and social lives move between metropolis and cyberpolis. We are not tied to a geographical zone, rather drawn across globalised email time zones, becoming shifting physical, emotional and virtual nodes in the fluid electronic network of the World Wide Web. line is simultaneously an Internet site tracking the intimate electronic email relationship between two remote users and a gallery installation. A laser beam intersects a wall mounted book of interwoven photographic architectural images from urban, industrial and rural landscapes, paralleling the emotional and physical ties to local geographical community with ethereal online communications.
